In a letter dated 22nd of February 1897, addressed to the President of Switzerland,
Charles Lardy informed, that His Majesty King Chulalongkorn had been planning his
first trip to Europe.
A villa on the shores of Lake Geneva in either Lausanne or Geneva was searched.
Finally the Villa Plongeon in Geneva was selected since it offered both seclusion
and a beautiful view.
