Wang Klaikangwon School - this is where the magic happens ...
✈ Introduction • Motivation
The Distance Learning Foundation, Thailand, in cooperation with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation from Japan has organised a training course on
"Educational Media Human Resource development in Southeast Asia Countries" during 16 - 24 January 2000 in Thailand.
The event is being held both to celebrate His Majesty the King's 72nd Birthday Anniversary which occured in 1999 and to pay tribute
to Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, who was named a Great Personality by UNESCO on the Occasion of Her Birth
Centenary in the millenium year.
His Majesty King Bhumibol and HRH Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, both exhibited strong interest in the country's educational system.
Wang Klaikangwon School under the patronage of His Majesty the King is a demonstrative institution with its educational management corresponding
to their policies, in keeping with the interest of the Princess Mother in full cycle educationand that of His Majesty the King in lifelong education.
Their educational policies have led to the origin of His Majesty's initiative on life long education which utilises an efficient means of modern
technology at an economical cost. With this technology, the DTH dish is used in the distance learning system whose communbicationbetween the mother
station and distance schools is interactive.
Distance learning helps eliminate educational inequality because it provides the same quality of education, learning and teaching from the same
teacher of the same subject at the same time among the participating schools. It also helps solve the problem of teacher shortage in a efficient
way since continously hiring teachers and constructing buildings are known to be more expensive processes.
✈ Setup at Wang Klaikangwon School
The Source of all programms is Wang Klaikangwon School, Hua Hin. Because this is the school of (the late) King Bhumibol.
The picture below shows the general setup.
From the Master Control Room the program is encoded using MPEG2 and then using an 34 MBps Fiber Optic transported to the RF Uplink, using
an 11 m dish. Via Thaicom Satellite (Ku Band) it is then broadcasted to a large audience also in many neighboring countries.
We would like to thank (the late) Khun Khwankeo Vajarodaya (อาจารย์ผู้ยิ่งใหญ่), Khun Wantana Thongcharoen and Khun Sommart Punhang for providing me
with extraordinary information. ขอขอบพระคุณทุกท่าน.
