✈ Some background




Noise temperature is the temperature at which a resistor (or other component) would generate the same amount of noise. It goes back to the familiar kTB calculation for thermal noise power.

It comes in handy at e.g. antennas, where it is hard to define a NF (noise-figure).

The formulas used are :

Note that the Reference Temperature is usually 290 K. (= 273.15 (Zero) + 16.85 (RTP)).
